***Director of Service-Learning, Youth Service America***
Youth Service America (YSA) Youth Service America seeks to improve communities by increasing the number and the diversity of youth, ages 5-25, who serve in substantive roles. Founded in 1986, YSA’s mission is to expand the impact of the youth service movement with communities, schools, corporations, and governments.
Located in Washington, DC, YSA partners with hundreds of organizations across the United States and in over 100 countries. Through public mobilization campaigns like Global Youth Service Day and Semester of Service we engage millions of children and youth in service to their communities every year, especially through service-learning. We promote the civic participation of all youth, and particularly of those from diverse backgrounds –low income, minorities, those with disabilities, involved in the justice system, refugees – and others who are traditionally not asked to serve. Position description:
Mobilization efforts described above require that the public have access to tailored resources and training to facilitate the engagement of children and youth in meaningful service opportunities.
The goal of the Director of Service-Learning is to increase the public’s understanding and adoption of service-learning principles, youth development concepts, and civic engagement approaches as effective strategies for children and youths’ engagement. With a solid foundation in the latest research, this position will create and oversee the development of educational materials, trainings, grants and incentives, and manage evaluation strategies to assess their impact. The Director will provide service-learning and youth development expertise to grant recipients, students, teachers, administrators, practitioners, policy makers, funders, and other constituents interested in starting or expanding their service-learning and youth engagement programs. In doing so, the Director will bring consistency and richness to all YSA’s tools, trainings, and incentives, with the goal of increasing the impact of youth-led service projects on the volunteers themselves and on the communities they serve. The Director will report to the organization’s senior management staff.
